Welcome to Wine Country
Waiheke Island is world renowned for its wine. Specialising in bold reds local winemakers are known for their Bordeaux styles and Syrah. Prefer white wine? There are some amazing examples of Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon made on the island. Enjoy a tasting at one of the many vineyards on the island and stay for lunch.

Waiheke Inspiration for Every Explorer
Waiheke has been home to many New Zealand artists. Originally a place to escape and let the creative juices flow the island is a place of inspiration for artists be they painters, ceramicists, photographers or sculptors. There are several galleries for art connoisseurs and just those a little curious to peruse.
Island Cuisine
When it comes to food and drink on Waiheke Island visitors are spoilt for choice. From fantastic food trucks to fine dining Waiheke has something for everyone.

Restaurants
Waiheke Island is renowned for its restaurants. Enjoy fine dining at one of the famous vineyards like Mudbrick or Tantalus. Visit Poderi Crisci and Casita Miro providing Mediterranean delights in an incredible setting. And for some of the freshest seafood visit The Oyster Inn nestled in the heart of Oneroa. There is no shortage of choice, and every one is the right answer!

Cute Cafe’s
New Zealanders are pretty discerning when it comes to the flat white. In fact we claim to have invented it. Waiheke is no different to the rest of the country, except it's not uncommon to pair your morning brew with stunning beach views. Get a takeaway and enjoy coffee with the sand between your toes.

Cheap eats
It's not all fancy food on Waiheke Island, there are treats to match any budget. Indy's Curry Pot in Ostend will serve up one of the best Sri Lankan curries you've ever had. Island Gelato is a must visit for incredible ice cream. And of course, fish and chips. The 3 Fishes in Ostend do the best, grab them to go and enjoy on the beach.
When to visit
Waiheke Island is a great year round destination. During the spring and summer season expect to see the vineyards looking their best and native birdlife enjoying the warm settled weather. While autumn and winter provide an opportunity to escape the crowds.

Spring
Spring on Waiheke Island is a breathtaking blend of blooming vineyards, golden beaches, and lush greenery. Cafés and wineries offer stunning views and fresh seasonal flavors. With scenic coastal walks and crystal-clear waters, spring is the perfect time to explore Waiheke’s natural beauty.

Summer
Summer is when Waiheke really comes alive. Domestic and International visitors enjoy the Island's spoils as the vineyards are looking their best and the water is warm for swimming. The town centre in Oneroa is full of life which creates an awesome vibe.

Autumn & Winter
Autumn and winter on the island are great times to visit. Often when it is raining on the mainland, it is nice on Waiheke! There are less crowds and the cooler weather makes enjoying hiking that little bit easier. Reservations at the popular wineries are easier to come by. And if you're brave, you can still take a mid-winter dip!

Getting around
Of course it is easy to get around Waiheke Island if you are taking your car with SeaLink. We take foot passengers too, and it's easy if you are coming just with your own two feet!

Car Rental
There are lots of options for car rentals on Waiheke Island and most operators will happily leave a car at our terminal for pick up. Just let them know you're coming with SeaLink.

Taxis
You can often find taxi drivers waiting at our terminal when your ferry arrives. Or you can book ahead and have them waiting for you with a sign, just like in the movies!

Public Transport
If you decide to leave the car at home, the regular bus service has you covered. The 501 service runs between Kennedy Point and Matiatia via Surfdale and Oneroa.
Planning your trip
Waiheke Island can be enjoyed in many different ways. Stay for the day, make a weekend of it or plan a week long family escape.

Short on time? A day trip is still a great way to see the island. Take a guided tour, or explore at your own pace with your car.

Palm Beach is perfect if you want to be close to one of the island’s best swimming spots. Stay in Ostend for easy access to the lively weekend markets. If you’re after restaurants, shops, and a bit more buzz, Oneroa is where the action is. Or head to the eastern side of the island for something more secluded and peaceful.

Island facilities
Waiheke is a well-serviced island with everything you need for a short escape or a longer stay. You’ll find all the essentials and a few luxuries too. There’s a large Woolworths supermarket plus plenty of smaller grocers dotted around the island. If someone feels unwell or gets a bump, the Waiheke Medical Centre is in Oneroa. You’ll also find ATMs and banking facilities handy when you need them. Need to top up the car? There are petrol stations on the island, making it easy to keep exploring. And of course, the locals are always happy to help. If you’re ever unsure where to go, just ask, they’ll gladly point you in the right direction.
