Heading to Waiheke or Great Barrier with your furry friend? Dogs can travel for free on the outside decks — just make sure they’re on a lead and under control. Only registered guide or assistance dogs are allowed inside the passenger lounge.
Taking a cat to Waiheke? They’ll need to stay in your vehicle or travel in an approved pet carrier.
For Great Barrier sailings, there’s a small seating area near the café on the vehicle deck where you can hang out with your dog. DOC does ask that dogs are well-controlled — or left at home if that’s easier — and remember, dogs aren’t allowed on conservation land to help protect the local wildlife.
A heads-up: On sailings carrying dangerous goods, all passengers (including those with pets) need to be in the passenger lounge or upper decks — no staying in vehicles. If you'd prefer to stay in your car with your pet, please book a non-dangerous goods sailing.
